PRESIDENT
Mark Hector (United Kingdom)

Mark Hector was born in Nairobi, Kenya and first graduated in Physiology, then in Dentistry in 1981. There followed 3 years at the University of Bristol and Kings College, London after which he received his PhD. Following 3 years in oral medicine and pathology at Guys Hospital Dental School he was recruited to The London Hospital Medical College as a lecturer in Child Dental Health under Professor Alan Brook. From 1990-1997 Mark was Hon Secretary and Hon Treasurer to the IAPD. From 1999-2003 he took on the post of Editor under the editor in chief Ruth Holt.
For the last 20 years Mark has been closely involved in the delivery of a very successful masters programme in Paediatric Dentistry, attracting students from around the world, co-authored numerous scientific articles, and regularly contributes to international congresses. He currently holds the Chair of Oral Health of Children at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, and thrives on taking an active role in teaching paediatric dentistry to undergraduate and postgraduate students. To maintain a balance he also co-supervises several PhD students. To maintain a degree of sanity he is a silversmith, and has been responsible for the design and production of the IAPD Medal.

IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT
Anna B Fuks (Israel)

Prof. Anna B. Fuks was born in Curitiba, Brazil, and graduated in Dentistry by the Federal University of the State of Parana. She completed her post-graduate course in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Alabama, U.S.A. and did her residency at the Childrens Hospital of the same University. She then returned to Brazil, where she practiced and taught at the University of Parana until 1973. At that same year she immigrated to Israel and joined the Department of Pediatric Dentistry of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, reaching the degree of Professor. Concomitantly to teaching and clinical private practice, she dedicated herself to clinical and laboratory research. Being fluent in several languages, she lectured in Pediatric Dentistry worldwide, and became honorary member of the several Academies of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Fuks is a member of the Editorial Board of several dental journals, has received several prizes in research, wrote eight chapters in Pediatric Dentistry books, and has published over 100 articles in many international journals. Presently she continues teaching at the Department of Pediatric Dentistry of the Hadassah School of Dental Medicine, and in part time private practice.

PRESIDENT ELECT
Eduardo Alcaino (Australia)

Eduardo A. Alcaino is a paediatric dentist who has been in full time specialist private practice since 1999. After completing his BDS (Hons) at the University of Sydney in 1988, he worked in general private practice for 8 years. He is currently a Specialist Clinical Associate with the University of Sydney as well as a visiting specialist at the Westmead Centre for Oral Health and Sydney Dental Hospital, in Sydney-NSW. He gained his Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS) in 1992 and at present runs two private specialist practices in Burwood and Bondi junction, Sydney.
Eduardo started his full time specialty training at the Westmead Centre for Oral Health in 1995. His thesis on the use of general anaesthesia in paediatric dentistry and continuing education in the topic of sedation in paediatric dentistry has allowed him to become involved in establishing protocols and guidelines on the use of sedation in children with the Australasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and the RACDS. He is a past President of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry (ANZSPD- NSW Branch) and he held the position of Secretary/Treasurer for the recent Congress of IAPD in November 2005, in Sydney- Australia.

SECRETARY GENERAL
Gerald Z Wright (Canada)

Professor Emeritus Gerald Wright has been Secretary General of IAPD since 1999. He was born in Canada and received his undergraduate dental education at the University of Toronto and his postdoctoral training at Indiana University. His academic career was based at the University of Western Ontario where he served as Chair of the Division of Orthodontics and Paediatric Dentistry and Assistant Dean of Continuing Dental Education. During his academic career, he published four books, numerous articles and book chapters and lectured throughout the world. Much of his time has been devoted to the development of programs to assist the teaching of pediatric dentistry in less wealthy nations.
Dr. Wright is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, a past Director and President of the Board. He also is a Fellow and past Examiner of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. He has served as Associate Editor / Editorial Board of five journals. For his work on behalf of children, he was awarded the medal of Paris in 2001, and in 2004 Honoris Doctoris Causa from the Belarussian State Medical University and the Herman Fellowship at the University of Western Australia.

Milton Houpt (USA)

Dr. Milton Houpt is professor and chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and director of the Postdoctoral Program in Pediatric Dentistry at the UMDNJ-New Jersey Dental School. He also served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs of the New Jersey Dental School from 2004-2008. Dr. Houpt received the Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Toronto in 1960 and the Master of Dental Science (1968), Master of Education (1970), and Doctor of Philosophy (1971) degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1968, he attained a Certificate of Specialty in Pediatric Dentistry and in 1982 he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Houpt has served on the editorial boards of six national refereed journals and for seven years, he served as Editor in Chief for Pediatric Dentistry, the journal of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. In May 2004, he was designated as Editor Emeritus of that journal. He has given more than 50 international presentations and has published more than thirty editorials, 60 research abstracts, and 65 manuscripts in the areas of cariology, dental materials, and conscious sedation.

Dr. Houpt served as a consultant to the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation, the Test Construction Committee of the National Dental Examination Board, and the National Institutes of Health, Health Resources and Service Administration. For seven years, he was a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

REPRESENTATIVE OF NATIONS
Jorge Luis Castillo (Peru)

Dr. Jorge L. Castillo was born in Lima, Peru. After he graduated from dental school at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Peru, he completed Pediatric Dentistry Graduate School at the University of Connecticut and Orthodontics Graduate School at the University of Washington. He also holds a Master of Dental Sciences degree from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Sciences in Dentistry from the University of Washington. Dr. Castillo is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
He is the Past-President of the Peruvian Society of Pediatric Dentistry and President of the Peruvian Society of Orthodontics. He is a member of multiple local and international dental associations.
Dr. Castillo is a member (2006-2012) of the Editorial Board of “Pediatric Dentistry”, Journal of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and other local and international journals.  He is professor of the Department of Dentistry for Children and Adolescents at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia and Affiliate Assistant Professor of the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Washington. He has authored several articles published in indexed journals and has lectured in Peru and other Latin American countries.

REPRESENTATIVE OF NATIONS
Evert van Amerongen (Netherlands)

Willem Evert van Amerongen was born in 1947 in the Netherlands, and graduated from dentistry in 1972. In 1980, he completed his PhD titled: “Quality aspects of activities of dental nurses”. Dr Amerongen is Head of the Department of Paediatric Dentistry from 1986. His activities are mainly focused on the education of dental students, patient treatment, research and supervision. During this same period he was promoted to Associate Professor. He is (co-)author or of approximately 75 publications; he has contributed to several books , like the book on Dental Caries, authored by Fejerskov and Kidd.
In 1994 he became involved with the World Health Organization (WHO) concerning the Atraumatic Restorative Technique (ART), which resulted in a number of projects in developing countries. This involvement steered his interests towards community-based aspects of caries risk in child populations. As such, he has developed a number of research projects in these countries and supervises 20-24 students yearly.
He was President of the Dutch Association of Paediatric Dentistry for a six year period and recently, he was awarded an honorary membership. From 2002, he has represented the Netherlands as councillor for the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry (EAPD) and in 2005, as national councillor for the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry (IAPD). Finally, he was Chairman of the organizing committee of the EAPD congress 2006 in Amsterdam.

Anthony Tzong-Ping Tsai (Taiwan)

Dr. Tzong-Ping Tsai, also know as Anthony Tsai, was born in Tainan, Taiwan. He graduated in Dentistry in 1982 at the Kaohsiung Medical University, Taiwan. He completed his pediatric dentistry specialty training and received his M.S. in 1986 at the University of Michigan, USA. He is a founding member and a past president of Taiwan Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He is currently the Director of the Taiwan Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Before becoming a full time private practice in 2000, he was a clinical assistant professor at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taipei, Taiwan. He was the Head of the Pediatric Dentistry at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (Taipei). He is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a fellow of International College of Dentists. He has been actively involved in the development of national school fluoride mouth-rinsing program and establishing new standard for fluoride toothpaste in Taiwan. He published several articles in refereed journals and presented reports in national, Asia and international conferences. His research interests are in preventive dentistry, pulp therapy and tooth auto-transplantation.
