Taku


Taku Fujiwara (Japan)

Taku Fujiwara is Professor of Pediatric Dentistry, at the Nagasaki University Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.  
He was born in Osaka, Japan.  He graduated from the Osaka University Faculty of Dentistry, and started his career at the department of Dental Research of the National Institute of Health Japan, in Tokyo.  In 1986, he came back to Osaka University Dental Hospital as Clinical Staff of Pediatric Dentistry.  After receiving his PhD degree from the Osaka University in 1990, he moved to the department of Oral Microbiology. He also studied as visiting fellow at the department of Infection biology, Max-Plank Institute for Biology (Tübingen, Germany) for one year.  In 1994, he became Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Osaka.  In 2002, he received the position of Professor in the Nagasaki University Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

He is Senior Fellow of the Japanese Society of Pediatric Dentistry (JSPD) since 2006.  In JSPD, he has served as Chairperson of the Committees of Public Relations (2006-2008) and Science (2010-2014) and as Vice-President (2012-2014). Now, he is Chairperson of the Committee of Foreign Affairs Relations of JSPD and Secretary General of the 10th Biannual Conference of Pediatric Dentistry Association Asia, Tokyo, 2016.

His main research field is oral microbiology and cariology.  He has studied the virulence factor of oral bacteria.  He has conducted extensive research in molecular biological properties of glucosyltransferase from Streptococcus mutans.  which is the main virulence factor of dental caries.  He is also interested in the colonization of oral streptococci.

 

 

The International Association of Paediatric Dentistry (IAPD) is a non-profit organization founded in 1969, with the objective to contribute to the progress and promotion of oral health for children around the globe.
